Research studies have shown that there IS a demonstrable difference between Montessori graduates and traditional education graduates. Some would think that our children are academically ahead of their counter-parts in traditional schools – but that’s only partially true.
At the end of Kindergarten, Montessori children score much higher academically than other children. Testing at the end of 6th grade, however, shows that, academically, there’s not much difference between the two. However, there is a noticeable difference in the “Executive Function” skills. Montessori children far out perform their public school counterparts in social skills.
And, to that end, I am proud to say that Didion Middle School just held their student body elections. Four of our Montessori graduates received top honors:
Riley Burke was elected Student Body President
Haily Holston was elected Student Body Vice President
Zev Steinberg was elected Student Body Secretary
Sannah Tahiliani was elected Class Representative
Congratulations are in order for these four young people, AND I happily acknowledge that Montessori children THRIVE when they leave our Elementary program at the end of 6 years.
