What is Montessori? What Happens After Montessori?

How will your child do when he or she leaves Montessori? This is a common question asked by many parents considering Bergamo Montessori School for their child. While the immediate benefits of Bergamo are obvious – peaceful, child centered classrooms, a school culture that fosters intellectual curiosity and an emphasis on community – parents often wonder “Will my child be prepared for the future ahead? How will she do in the ‘real world’?”

The answer? They thrive. Montessori educates the whole child – not just the intellect. Our graduates leave us with not only a preparation of the mind, but a nurturing of the heart and spirit that helps to build an adept, flexible, well adjusted adult. Please view our video interviews with alumni to hear, first hand, about their transition to traditional education and beyond.

As the AMI Montessori movement spreads around the world, more resources have been allocated to research the outcomes of the method. The studies are beginning to prove what many Montessorians already know: Montessori works.

“This study supports the hypothesis that Montessori education has a positive long-term impact. Additionally, it provides an affirmative answer to questions about whether Montessori students will be successful in traditional schools. A significant finding in this study is the association between a Montessori education and superior performance on the Math and Science scales of the ACT and WKCE. In essence, attending a Montessori program from the approximate ages of three to eleven predicts significantly higher mathematics and science standardized test scores in high school.”
